Awesome cosplay makeup I found online earlier!
They found this off the coast of Catalina sunday morning! It's called an oarfish and is rarely seen since it's typically only in super deep water in tropical areas. It was found dead on the ocean floor by a lady snorkeling when she grabbed it by the tail and hauled it to shore. The Catalina Institute (which is the people we went on the boat with in Wolcott's class) was freakin out because they were so excited lol. This one measures 18 feet, but the species can grow up to 57 feet. It's said that all the sailors and pirates in the past were talking about an oar fish when describing serpant and mermaid sightings! Catalina Institute and UCSB are taking tissue samples now, and after testing they plan to bury it and then dig it up in a couple years for the skeleton! Then they will display it at the museum where we boarded the boat for the day. I thought that was cool, plus it's creepy, and I thought you would like it. =)
